Cool Origami Owl Instructions

Fold a wise and charming Origami owl! Follow our step-by-step guide to create this majestic paper bird.

The origami owl is a gorgeous piece of paper sculpture. If I did a better job at it, you’ll be able to tell. However, you can just see how awesome it can really be if all the cuts and creases were done perfectly.

Yes, there are a couple of cuts you’ll have to make, but they’re very minor and really help define the figure of an owl.

Folding the wings were a little awkward, but really cool when you see them take shape. The owl is really fun to fold and cool to look at. Try it yourself.

Step 1

Start with a square sheet of origami paper. I am using an 7×7 inches origami paper.

If you only have regular paper, follow these instructions on how to make a square origami paper.

Step 2

Rotate the sheet diagonally as shown.

Step 3

Fold the paper in half by folding the top corner to the bottom corner.

Step 4

Now fold the triangle in half by taking the left corner and folding it to the right.

Step 5

Open the top flap and spread.

Step 6

Now crease the left and right sides so you can flatten the flap down to meet at the bottom corner.

Step 7

Turn the model over.

Step 8

To mimic what we did earlier, lift the left flap up and open it from the left and right sides.

Step 9

Crease the sides down so its corner can meet the bottom corner of the figure.

Step 10

Take the top layer of left side and fold it to meet the center line.

Step 11

Now take the top layer of right side and fold it to meet the center line.

Step 12

Take the top layer of left side and fold it to meet the center line.

Step 13

Now fold the top triangle down.

Step 14

Unfold the top triangle and both sides.

Step 15

Open the top layer and using the creases as a guide.

Step 16

Fold the left and right sides in to meet at the center.

Flatten the fold well.

Step 18

Turn the model over.

Step 19

Fold the left and right sides to meet at the center.

Step 20

Fold the top triangle down.

Step 21

Unfold. Start lifting the top layer upwards.

Step 22

Lift it up all the way by using the creases as a guide, fold the left and right sides in to meet at the center.

Now fold that layer back down.

Step 24

Turn the model over.

Fold that layer down also.

Take the right side of the top layer and fold it in to meet at the center.

Take the left side of the top layer and fold it in to meet at the center.

Turn the model over.

Step 29

Take the left and right sides of the top layer and fold it in to meet at the center.

Now we’ll make the wings. Pull out the right flap from inside the figure.

Now twist it. Make sure to twist the rear side downwards.

Flatten the fold well.

Step 33

Make the wings for the left side also.

Fold a portion of the top triangle down, but make sure not to fold it down past the corner where the flaps meet.

Step 35

Fold a major portion of it up again. Notice I did not entirely unfold, but kept 1/4th of it down and folded only 3/4ths of it back up.

Step 36

Now fold the whole triangle down including that 1/4th piece.

Step 37

For the feet, we’re going to need scissors. Take the bottom of the top layer and do a small cut as shown.

Step 38

Fold the newly created flaps up. Voila!
